December 2013

Our December meeting of course is a Christmas Party with lots of yummy food, gifts and prizes!

We started off the evening with some show and tell

To encourage everyone to try the new techniques that we learn each month at guild, your name goes in for a draw when you try these techniques on your own projects.   Linda donated one of the prizes (the Christmas ball) and wrapped it in fun sheep wrapping (thanks Carrie for the artistic design!!)  Our lucky winners were Caitlyn and Cathy!

The rest of the evening was spend snacking and knitting

and opening some gifts that Santa had brought.  Apparently he shops at Knit Picks too!!

November 2013

This month our meeting was a fun social knitting night to show off finished projects and have a relaxing night out!

October 2013

The October meeting was all about knitting with beads.  We learned 4 different ways to add beads to our knitting.

Everyone chose their hemp yarn and bead colours,

some of the beads were prestrung and others were added with a small crochet hook,

and everyone ended up with a fun bracelet as a sample of the different techniques.

September Meeting

Tonight was our first official meeting of the new Knitting year.

As usual the show and tell part of the evening was amazing and we saw finished projects and projects still in the works.

Plans were made for future meetings.  October - bead knitting, November  - learn to spin on a drop spindle, December - Christmas party, January - knit doilies, February - entrelac.

The topic of this month's meeting was learning how to knit backwards.  We had lots of fun with this knit little decorations for Halloween.

We also started making plans for a road trip to the Woodstock Fleece Festival in October.

Carol showed us this great idea of how to keep your yarn clean while you are knitting with it.  I thought it was the bottom of a sleeve but I think she said it was the bottom of a girls legging.  Either way it is a creative idea!

March 2013 - Mystery Project Reveal!

Our March 2013 meeting was the reveal of our Mystery Projects!  At each meeting there is always a Stitch of the Month. The idea with the Mystery Projects was to combine as many of these sts as you wanted to use into a project.

It was a lot of fun seeing the creativity that went into these projects.  I was too busy admiring the knitting and didn't get pictures of all the projects but I will share the few that I do have.

The rest of the evening was spent knitting

 and visiting with friends!

February Meeting - Steeking

Yikes, it is only a few months into the new year and already I am behind on the Knitting Goddesses Blog!

At our February meeting, our topic was steeking and cutting our knitting.  We had so much fun with this.  This was the first time a lot of our group had done this technique and it helps to have the support of other Knitters when you make that first cut!

As you can see in the above and below pictures, we used a contrasting colour and with a crochet hook we single crocheted on either side of where we wanted to cut to secure the sts.

more careful cutting

 and success!

January 2013 Meeting

The Knitting Goddesses met  last night in Springfield for our first meeting of the year.  Everyone had lots of show and tell, both finished projects and projects on the needles.

Our topic of the night was different ways to cast on.  We experimented with:

The 2 Needle Cast On
Twisted Loop Cast On Chezch Variation
German Twisted Cast On
Long Tail Cast On in Pattern (ribbing)
Alternate Cable Cast On (ribbing)
Twisted Italian Cast On

The Stitch of the Month was the Dimple Stitch

Plans are underway for our workshop on April 6 with the Yarn Harlot.  Only a couple of spaces left.  Our mystery projects will be revealed at the March meeting.

The next meeting will be Feb 20.  See you all there!
